A few thoughts this weekend:

The Giro D'Italia started on Saturday. Mario Cippolini failed to win the first stage, but came second. There are three British guys riding; Bradley Wiggins, Juilian Winn and Charles Wegerle. Eurosport have got it in the afternoon, but it's a pain to video. I guess I need a Tivo. Anyone know if you can still buy them?

Saturday evening I had half an hour to spare and couldn't find anything to watch on telly, until I came across the recording of the Parliamentary committee for Culture, Media and Sport from 6 May. Gurinder Chadha, who produced and directed Bend it like Beckham was on and she was absolutely fascinating. Told her story eloquently and well. Getting films made seems like incredibly hard work. Interesting too that the film has taken £12 million in the UK and she still hasn't made a penny (in the UK). Overseas sales are giving here something though. And it reflects well on David Beckham who allowed her to use his name in the title, before she had written a word of the script.

Read a piece in the paper the other day about army jackets being the de riguer fashion items for girls about town. Then went up the West End on Saturday and couldn't believe how much army stuff was around. What's going on?
